Primitives, the Belgium-headquartered TV formats distributor has announced that FOX has officially renewed the hit competition format 99 to Beat for a second season, following the success of its debut season last year.
The fast-paced, high-concept entertainment show comes with a simple yet addictive premise: don’t come last. In 99 to Beat, 100 contestants compete in a series of unpredictable, often hilarious challenges. The rules are simple — each round, the last-place finisher is eliminated. The remaining players move on, bringing them one step closer to the ultimate prize, with escalating tension, surprising twists, and universally relatable games.
Simone de Pruyssenaere de la Woestyne, managing director at Primitives said “99 to Beat’s strength lies in its simplicity and universal appeal — anyone can play, and everyone can relate. This return for a second season on FOX is the best testament to that fact. It also allows us to extend our creative development within the show so we’re excited to reveal how we can push the concept even further and bring audiences an even bigger, more entertaining experience.”
Originally created by Belgian broadcaster VRT and production company De Chinezen, 99 To Beat throws 100 contestants into a fast-paced gauntlet of wildly inventive, high-energy challenges. Its scalable format and engaging gameplay have positioned it as a key title in Primitives’ growing catalogue of globally successful formats. Season two on FOX promises to be more compelling by raising the stakes even further with fresh games and heightened drama. Building on the momentum of its first season, the new instalment will continue to deliver a unique blend of comedy, suspense, and large-scale competition that resonate with broad audiences.
Since its launch, 99 to Beat has established itself as a globally scalable entertainment format and was recently named K7 Media’s “Rising Star” format of 2025 in last week’s Tracking the Giants report. Now entering its seventh season on VRT, the format has been successfully adapted across 13 international territories, with multiple returning seasons in key markets including Germany (Sat.1), the Netherlands (Talpa Network/SBS6), Norway (Warner Bros Discovery), and Poland (TTV). The format continues to build international momentum with adaptations in Italy (RAI2), the UK (ITV1), Brazil (Record TV), Sweden (Kanal 5/WBD), France (M6) and Estonia (TV3), where the series is currently on air.
