We are delighted to announce the return of BOXING STARS to the Netherlands, eight years after its original run on RTL5. The new edition, produced by Signal.Stream, will launch on RTL's streaming platform Videoland on 31 October, reinventing the celebrity boxing competition as a series of three live Fight Nights.
The new season will see twelve Dutch celebrities swap the spotlight for the boxing ring, competing across three weight divisions. Following weeks of intensive training under professional supervision, the contestants will face each other in a knockout competition, culminating in the final Fight Night on 14 November, when the champions of each division will be crowned.
Combining competitive sport with entertainment and personal storytelling, BOXING STARS takes celebrities out of their comfort zones and challenges them to master the demanding world of boxing. From gruelling training sessions and personal setbacks to the adrenaline of stepping into the ring, the format captures the physical and emotional journey of its contestants, building towards high-stakes boxing matches in front of a live audience.
Originally created by Belgian production company De Mensen, BOXING STARS made its debut in 2016 as a one-off live event to launch Belgian channel CAZ. The format subsequently evolved into a full series for VTM in 2018, featuring sixteen celebrities competing in the boxing ring. Later that year, BOXING STARS travelled to the Netherlands, where RTL5 commissioned a seven-part local adaptation.
Now, eight years on, the format returns to RTL in a refreshed live-event version designed for streaming audiences. With three consecutive Saturday night events, the new edition brings BOXING STARS back to its event-based roots, while demonstrating its flexibility to evolve across broadcasters, platforms and production models.
Simone de Pruyssenaere de la Woestyne, Managing Director at PRIMITIVES, said: "It's exciting to see BOXING STARS return eight years after its original launch, this time reinvented as a live streaming event. It's a great example of how strong entertainment formats can evolve with changing viewing habits, and we see real potential for this new version internationally."
